Hello all,

I'm having a problem connecting a host to a VSWITCH that is using two
*new* OSA3 adaptors. Here's the message from the TCPIP console followed
by the explanation in the TCPIP Messages and Codes.

ToOsd ProcessReadBuffer: Termination failure code F6

Possible LAN transport misconfiguration detected during OSD device
initialization

DTCOSD355E Possible LAN transport misconfiguration detected during OSD
device initialization Explanation: An adapter error was received during
initialization. This message is preceded by message DTCOSD066E with the
error code. Possible reasons for error code F6 are: v The adapter was
coupled to a guest LAN or virtual switch with the ETHERNET transport
type. However, the TCP/IP z/VM OSD device driver does not support this
transport type. v In a second-level virtual switch environment, there is
a mismatch between the transport defined for the virtual NIC and the
simulated OSA-Express device. Possible reason for error code 4E is: v A
virtual switch was defined with ETHERNET transport type, but the target
OSA-Express device does not support this transport.System Action: The
device is shutdown.

I have multiple other VSWITCHES using both layer2 and layer3 transport.
It appears from the explanation that there may be either an issue with a
TCPIP 5.4 driver (not likely because I have another stack on the same
LPAR using ETHERNET layer2 on a different OSA), or perhaps there is an
issue with the OSAs. I have recycled the devices and CHPIDs at the VM
level, but have not deactivated/activated at the HMC. And yes, the
VSWITCH is defined to be ETHERNET as well as the link in the TCPIP
definitions.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Denny Burch
