Hi, Crispin. The answer is YES to all the four questions. Is there a way I can configure CTC's between LPAR's in same physical box without going out and buying hardware? 1- Yes, see reply 4 or if you already have a switch, see 2 and 3.
I saw somewhere that one could use share CHPID's with other devices using TYPE=FC. Does this only work if going out to Ficon switch ? 2-Yes, it needs a Ficon Director. In the same CHPID you can define simultaneously LCUs type FCTC, Tape or Dasds. I do have a Ficon express 8 card with 1 unused port, Can I do anything with that ? 3- Yes, but needs a switch to "close the loop". Define the CHPID as shared to the 2 lpars, and LCU/IODEVICE type FCTC. I do have a Ficon card with 2 currently unused ports port on it. Can this be used to join the LPAR's together by cabling 1 port to the other. 4- Yes, define several LCUs type FCTC. The parameter CUADD must match the destination LPARid. Replied by (mine, not so good) memory, see the IOCP manuals for details... ;-) ______________________________________________ Clovis From: Crispin Hugo <crispin.h...@macro4.com> To: IBMVM@LISTSERV.UARK.EDU Date: 18/07/2011 17:29 Subject: Ficon CTC's between LPAR's in same Box Sent by: The IBM z/VM Operating System <IBMVM@LISTSERV.UARK.EDU> Is there a way I can configure CTC's between LPAR's in same physical box without going out and buying hardware? All this is to create a z/VM 6.1 cse with 2 LPARs. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This email has been scanned for all known viruses by the MessageLabs Email Security Service and the Macro 4 internal virus protection system. . ------------------------------------------------------------------------
