Let's be pedantic shall we? Technically you are correct. Perhaps I misspoke when I said that the "xorg server" needed to be modified. I was using "xorg server" as a more general term referring to the whole X Window System. XIM stands for X Input Method identifying it as part of the X Window System. XIM has been part of the X specification since the early 90s. It first appeared in X11R5 and was refined for X11R6.
All this still does not negate my original analysis. Do you have anything constructive to add to that?
