Ubuntu and its derivatives are still the main portal for new Linux users. However, there are several issues regarding ibus on Ubuntu. 1. Latest stable ibus is not available except on 12.04 http://packages.ubuntu.com/ibus 2. PPA should be the way to backport, but it is outdated. https://launchpad.net/~ibus-dev/+archive/ppa https://launchpad.net/~shawn-p-huang/+archive/ppa 3. Missing icon bug on Kubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/854333 Related questions are asked over and over... 4. Some unanswered, even closed questions on askubuntu http://askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/ibus http://askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/input-method I just answered some regarding the icon bug. I'm downloading CD images of Lubuntu 12.04 and Xubuntu 12.04. I'd like to know whether ibus works well on alternative DEs. I'd download older releases of Ubuntu later.
