Comment #3 on issue 1591 by [email protected]: ibus and gnome3 interaction
problems
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1591
Fujiwara-san
after reading through many emails and bug reports, I see the following
points:
- ibus removed the ability to switch-context-per-window
- IME menu bar is not shown
both have been introduced in consequence of Gnome3 "design-decisions", even
if ibus is not a gnome application.
I have also read in an email from you that "most Japanese don't mind having
one global input mode". I have to disagree, and many of my Japanese
colleague with me. Whatever your impression is, it seems to be not
reflected by reality, as many people actually do miss the separation of
input context.
Anyway, as a consequence of the mostly unusable state of ibus starting with
1.5 onward, I have now removed all traces of it from my computer and
installed fcitx, which works as expected:
- every window has its own IME
- firefox works
- IME menu bar appears for dictionary management etc
I wish you good luck with your Gnome3 integration, but it is not the way
*I* want to go, although I am using gnome3.
