Freeplane ([0],[1]) is a Java mindmapping program. Over something like
1.5 years I have found that when typing text or causing nodes to
move/change with the keyboard, occassionally freeplane would stop
responding to keystrokes completely, requiring a restart. In testing
with a slow renderer (software) and on my second monitor, it will
start ignoring keystrokes quite quickly (Cntrl+UP and Cntrl+DOWN
pressed constantly on a node in my C mindmap e.g.).
I originally reported as a freeplane Debian bug[2], however after
going to the lengths of learning Java and then spending days fighting
the problem (most recently here[3], see 'Jul 02, 2014; 4:59pm' post),
I finally found that it was ibus screwing up freeplane! When freeplane
had the problem, I killed ibus and suddenly I could send keystrokes to
it again.
This only affects freeplane, although I don't run many Java programs
in general - Eclipse is the only other example that gets lots of
keyboard input. If it affected more programs I would have had a chance
to spot this long ago...
