By default ubuntu uses Unity desktop with "integrated menu".
This is non-intuitive at first, but applications that "support it" don't have their menu placed below their titlebar (as it is usual) but have their menu exported to desktop (it is "hidden" in the top bar of the desktop - the same bar where you have various indication icons). Just move your mouse to the top of the screen and menu will show up.
