After I investigated AppIndicator, there are two problems:

I created the patch to use the low dbus methods for plasma-desktop and this
can be maintained with the current gtk3 panel.
% autoreconf
% ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-appindicator
% make install
% ibus-daemon --panel /usr/libexec/ibus-ui-appindicator
KStatusNotifierItem is difficult for me to maintain with the current gtk3
panel.
