The cockpit drains hoses might need replacing. I did mine last year. Not fun.... The thru-hulls are probably fine. And I do not have seacocks on exhaust, drains or bilge. Go out and sail.

It's great to have a boat with so much good information out there. I just bought a 1985 27 tallmast, wheel, inboard diesel. I was looking for a tallmast tiller outboard but this one was priced decently enough. As usual once my rose colored glasses faded I have a good bit of work to do. Looks like the first owner until about 2002 really took care of the boat. The last two didn't know much about boats and it just sat neglected. Every system except the stove has some issue that needs repairing. The macerator pump was shot so I replaced that yesterday with a manual pump, still need to neaten up the install. After I replace the engines fresh water pump I'm motoring to the yard for a haul out for a bottom job and a dripless shaft seal. The thru-hulls arn't flanged so I'll replace those too. The hose on the cockpit drains are probably original and need replacing. There isn't seacocks on the cockpit drains, bilge discharge or engine exhaust discharge. Did anyone add these or do you just keep a plug handy? In case the boat starts taking on water it would be nice to be able to isolate everything, It'll probbly cost an arm and leg to do it though. I'll be taking the boat offshore and I'm trying to make it as safe as possible. I also need to replace the standing and running rigging. I have the sails that came with the boat and the roller furling for sell if anyone is interested. Its a 145%. They are usable probably 5.5 out of 10, 0 being rotten 10 being new. I'm going with hanks and a battenless main. I'm trying to keep the boat as simple as possible. This is the first boat I've owned with all these systems and they all seem to be broke. I'd rather be out sailing but I'm learning some usefull info. Seems like a pretty solid boat, I know one has circumnavigated but in general where do you guys sail? I hope to take a few months and go to the Bahamas, if the boat does good maybe farther. Thanks for all the good information.
