Thanks Bob, I only paid $3700 for the boat so the cost of a diesel seems a bit 
spendy. I could get an atomic 4 pretty cheap but people I have talked to say 
not to go there just stick with the outboard.

I would guestimate it will cost $4000-6000 to replace the engine, trans, etc. 
You possibly could get some of the parts off a boat that someone is selling 
piecemeal.

I think your best bet is to just bite the bullet on correcting the mount for 
the outboard and change the motor to a long-shaft. Probably still cost in the 
neighborhood of $2500 but a LOT less aggravation.
