Tony,

I have a Martec folding prop, get something over 6 at 2800 RPM. We were
heading into 15 to 20 MPH winds yesterday and still getting over 3. Have
you inspected it recently like this past winter if you hauled the boat. I
don't know where you are or how long you can hold your breath. It may be
worth going for a swim to check if the blades are fully extending.

As far as changing to a fixed, I second the post suggesting you call a
manufacturer and get their advice.

Subject: [IC27A] Cat 27 Folding prop

I have a 1983 Catalina 27 with a folding prop and I can only get about 5
knots in no wind and less than 1 with a 14+ wind. The engine runs great, 11
hp univeral 5411.

Has anyone changed the prop from folding to non-folding? What type and brand
should I buy? (2 blade? 3 blade? What pitch? HELP!!!

Thanks, Tony
