I replaced the old track with the upgrade from catalina direct. It's a Garhuer unit and the bolt holes lined up exactly! Easiest project I have done on the boat. Just unbolt old traveler (ok, that part wasn't that easy) line up new track, redrill holes for larger screws, and caulk and install new traveler. Then attach main sheet tackle and be on your way!
Besides the auto pilot, this was the greatest improvement I made to make sailing more enjoyable, and easier! Good luck with your upgrade! -Ivan S/v Blow Me II -----Original Message----- From: "Debbi Rutherford" <[email protected]> Date: Tue, 28 Jul 2009 15:16:02 To: <[email protected]> Subject: [IC27A] Traveler Repair Hi, everybody! The traveler on our recently-purchased '77 TR is in sad shape. The stops which work sort of like the jib cars are almost frozen to the track. They release with thumb screws, which are probably bent and just don't want to work. As my husband says, it works fine... with a pair of vise grips and 15 minutes. Unscrewing two stops, moving the traveler and screwing them down again seems less than optimal to me. I'm kind of thinking about replacing the whole thing with a standard 4:1 setup. Has anyone tried that? Should I be thinking in a different direction? Thanks! Debbi Gypsea 1977 Catalina 27 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
