I'm not sure what you feel as prop wash. If you are feeling vibration then
check for rudder shaft play and/or the blade coming loose on the shaft.
Rudder tubes do get worn.

Having the water flow from the prop directed at the rudder is very
desirable. It's what gives an inboard its great maneuverability boost over
an outboard. If you're transitioning from an outboard one of the first
things you'll want to learn is how to turn the boat in its own length. Until
you do you will always feel slightly intimidated by not being able to turn
the outboard, and once you get it down wanting to turn the outboard will
seem silly. You should have all the family members that take the helm learn
how it is done. Almost all low speed & docking maneuvers are a variation of
this one simple skill unique to an inboard.

Since you don't need steerage way to maneuver anymore you can easily plan
windage, current, and drift into docking and simply align the boat and slip
right in. If you've ever watch the movie Captain Ron, that docking maneuver
at the yacht club was just an advanced variation of turning the boat in it's
own length. I've done a very similar maneuver successfully with my brother's
IP38 with no practice time, it all gets easy once you can clock the boat
around.

Subject: [IC27A] Atomic 4 Operation Characterstics in a C27

Being new to an Atomic 4 and a c27 I was looking for a little feedback on
how these two work together. I do notice that when I am under power I do get
some vibration in the boat, its not excessive - but not sure if this should
be 100% smooth. When I bought the boat the cutlass bearing had a very small
amount of play in it. I figured I would replace it next season and align the
engine.

I also notice a fair amount of prop wash in the rudder while under power -
is this normal?

Any other observations or things to check?

Thanks

Derek.-
