I recently bought an asymetrical sail (which I think is the same thing as a
gennaker), including sock for under $1000 from National Sails Supply (
www.nationalsail.com) and am very pleased with it. (I haven't used it that
much, so I don't know how it would hold up over time). The sock makes it
easy for one person to deploy it and bring it in, but I would recommend that
you have some help the first few times you use it. My wife was a little
worried for a while that she would see me out there parasailing a few times
before I got the hang of it. You can't sail dead down wind very well with
an A-sail. A regular spinnaker is best for that. But a spinnaker is harder
for one person to handle, and things can get pretty hairy.
