one thing to think about is line of sight when at the helm. our dodger obstructs a percentage of our view causing the need for a large cushion or standing up when performing maneuvers such as docking and rafting up. also think about line handling beneath your dodger as you don't want to lose valuable space for cranking a sheet or coiling a line (our dodger prevents a full rotation on the mainsheet winch) but if you have aft boom sheeting then no matter. you'll also most likely have to bend over a lot given the new lack of standing head room you new dodger may account for and tacking may be more difficult as your crew won't be able to stand up under the dodger meaning they will be taking up more cockpit area and possibly hindering the helmsman. be sure to get covers for all windows to prevent uv, mold, and scratch damage. I don't know how the sailing is in so cal but here in the SF bay it's cold and splashy with lots of bow spray so dodgers are a huge plus but if you can get away with just the bimini i would go that route. good luck. -rob
