Soot build up on the transom could also be a sign of incomplete fuel
combustion. This may occur when idling, or running the engine at low
speeds with out a load. Engines need to be run under load to help
reduce carbon build up, even while at the dock. Just a few thoughts
for your consideration.

John,
I'm with you...I just hate that black soot. I have uses some of the
soft scrub on a long handle deck brush to keep it looking clean but
it may not be the best for the gel coat. Let me know if it works.

Has anyone tried applying WoodyWax on the transom to prevent the
black soot build up?
......Create a non-stick wax finish for your boat After you apply
this wax with a soft deck brush, dirt, soot, bird droppings and
even fish blood rinse off easily. One application lasts up to two
months and protects against corrosion, oxidation,...
I'm going to try this because I hate the black soot. I know I had a
bottle of this stuff, I'm just hoping I didn't sell it with the
last boat.
