Hi, I have a Catalina 27, #65 (1971) on which I replaced my motor last
summer. I had a 1999 Yamaha 9.9 horsepower, four stroke outboard which was
running well, but the lower unit had holes in it which compromised its
cooling system. I decided to replace it with the new redesigned model.

The old motor did not tilt so sailing was very inefficient. It was
mounted on a bracket and I though it would be an easy exchange of motors.
However; as most projects work out, the new motor would not tilt up out of the
water due to its close proximity to the transom. Therein laid the rub.

After careful research of available motor mounts that would allow me to
move the motor aft a sufficient distance to allow it to tilt out of the water,
I settled on "The Kicker" made by Bobs Machine Shop in Tampa, Florida.

It was neither inexpensive ($1,000 +) nor a plug and play install. After
completely rebuilding my former motor lazarette and customizing "The
Kicker" to minimize its weight, I have a new auxiliary which I will never have
to
replace because it is out of the water when not in use, and has a fresh
water flush system to prevent harmful deposits from being left in the motor
between uses.

If you wish to see the mount in operation, visit my web site
(ahsovereignty.com) and watch the videos. I will be delighted to answer any
questions
you might ask, merely E-mail me and I will send you information and pictures.

Hi, I have a catalina 27 1973. my old 9.9 2 stroke johnson fit the transom
cutout and would tilt up. my 2003 nissan 9.8 2 stroke would not tilt up.
With out modifying the engine cowling or the transom area does anyone know if
any new engines will fit in the 8-9.8 range. I heard the honda classic 8
would but i do not think its available. I am considering buying a
nissan/tohatsu 6.0 with alternator, anyone have experience with a 6 on a cat
27?
Finally My motors have all been 20 inch shafts, anyone use a 25 inch on the
transom mount? which is better?, thanks...
