[IC27A] 1974 Catalina 27 Outboard replacement

Has anyone had a successful search for a new 4 stroke 8-9.9 Hp outboard that 
will fit in the transom cutout without extensive alterations?  My 1989 8 HP 
mercury 2 stroke is still good for one more season, and I'd like to replace it 
next spring.    I looked at an 8 HP Tohatsu with a 12 amp alternator.  It's 
real close in size to the Merc, but would like to know if anyone has found a 
new motor that fits.  Rob aboard Cigognes, Hull # 1701.
