The base size is different, so it actually hangs off the fiberglass pedestal. 
There is still plenty of contact area for the unit - but the front corner off 
the bowl isn't going to fit.

The boat is a 79 and the head is a Jabsco compact twist/n lock unit.

Mount it directly on the fiberglass.  If the old holes are a problem, use some 
Marinetex to fill in the old holes and drill your new holes.
