Dear group, Thanks for recommendations and suggestions on tiller autopilots. I have ordered the Simrad from Defender and will let you know how it goes. I don't need the additional features (or cost) of the Raymarine, so I am going with the KISS principle. I'll let you know how it goes. Sid
If a man must be possessed by something, I suppose a boat is as good as anything, perhaps a bit better than most. A small sailing craft is not only beautiful, it's seductive and full of strange promise and the hint of trouble. E.B. White, The Sea and Wind that Blows To: [email protected] From: [email protected] Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2010 15:10:46 -0400 Subject: RE: [IC27A] recommendations on tiller autopilot At different times, I owned a TP10 and a Raymarine tillerpilot with my previous boat. I thought the Raymarine was a little more sophisticated and performed a little better than the TP10. But it also cost substantially more. In addition, it had a crappy seal that allowed water to drip on the circuit panel when I cruised through rainstorms. Eventually, that killed the Raymarine. The TP10 performed competently for about six months, until it developed an electrical problem. Simrad replaced the circuit panel for free under warranty and returned it within a couple of weeks. It worked fine after that. My opinion: No tillerpilot is going to be perfect on a fin keel boat. The helm is just too sensitive. But it sure is nice to have one when you’re singlehanding. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]on Behalf Of Sid Sent: Monday, April 19, 2010 1:42 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [IC27A] recommendations on tiller autopilot Does anyone have suggestions for a tiller autopilot? Looks like both Simrad and Raymarine have offerings, but I would like to hear from anyone with some experience or recommendations. I seem to remember there were some posts on this a while back, but I was unable to find any reference by searching past posts. Thanks. _________________________________________________________________ The New Busy is not the too busy.
