Ditto here on Lake Champlain plus we get wiiliwaws from the mountains on the NY side. It's a cheap upgrade. I used to sail Lake Erie on Abino Bay, Ontario.

I really believe that the ball bearings help reduce the furling effort especially if you find yourself furling in building winds. You may plan to only sail in moderate winds but I know that where I sail on Lake Erie we are lucky to get a 30-minute warning of an approaching summer squall.
