6500 sounds pretty steep to me. I haven't built one for a Cat (maybe I have and don't remember) but I have built a few dodger and bimini frames when I worked for a sailmaker.
It's not a big deal if you have/have access to a tubing bender. Just make double sure of the dimensions, curvature and placement of you bows so it will fold and stow properly.
