It doesn't fit in the engine compartment..... It is 32" long with the tranny
which puts the engine about 3" outside the door that encloses the compartment.
Catalina's have either a Universal Diesel, an Atomic 4 or a Yanmar. Anything
other than that is too big. However, I got the Volvo running and will double my
money..

Don't buy a Volvo for the boat.

WOW Chris that is a score. Do they have any other diesels around that price
range? I would have to ship it but that is still a deal.

I paid $750.00 for the complete engine, tranny, wiring harness and a Catalina
engine control panel that was missing from my boat. I got lucky! There is a guy
here in Houston that has boat salvage yard and is pretty reasonable. The engine
came out of a Dufour 28 so it isn't a complete match to my boat but VERY close.
I still have some left over parts in my boat that shows it had some sort of
Penta originally however when I measured the width of the mount holes in my
boat and they are 16" wide from the center of each while the engine mount holes
are about 14-15" wide. The good thing is the plates that mount to the engine
and motor mounts are removable allowing me to fabricate shims to widen the
holes. Be advised though if you get one better have either a cherry picker or
about four strong fellows with you to move it around cause that sucker is
HEAVY! I'll take some pictures of it later and post them to the FTP gallery.
First thing I'm going to do is pull the boat out for a bottom job and inspect
the prop and packing glands and make whatever repairs are necessary there. Then
I'll replace the electrical and plumbing, fabricate the shims and lastly have
the shipyard drop it back in with the crane.
It will be a slow process because it is just too damn hot here in Texas to be
working on it this summer!

Hi Chris, I am in the same boat (did I say that) with a missing Diesel and hate
the outboard too. Let me know how it works out. What did you have to pay for
the MD-7?

I bought my 78 C27 last year and it came with an Mercury 9.8 outboard because
the original diesel engine had been removed. After sailing it quite a bit on
Galveston Bay I decided that I hate the outboard and just bought an MD-7 but
need the wiring diagram plus diagrams for the plumbing and exhaust. Any help is
appreciated.

Also has anyone attempted doing this before and if so any pointers are
appreciated since I will do most of this myself.

Thanks!

Chris
