ok so I am now in a position where I need help but I've been having trouble
finding what to do, because of the wide variety of search terms.

Packing gland?
Stuffing box?
Dripless Shaft Seal (DSS) ?
PSS? Not sure where that came from

Regardless the thingummy where our prop shaft goes thru the hull is now
spewing a steady stream of water at rest, and I fear to see what kind of
water it leaks while the engine is running and driving. I arrived at our
boat this past weekend to find an inch of water over the bilge and the house
battery dead. I switched to Battery 2 and hooked up shore power, and it was
all pumped out and stayed dry, but it's a source of concern.

And not to mention, I found a slow leak on a freshwater hose
post-pressure-pump so I plan a thorough inspection of all our fresh water
plumbing to find where we need new hoses and clamps. I don't like finding a
dead AGM battery and an inch of water over the bilge so this concerns me. In
past years, our 1988 #6480 has had a moist bilge but never this bad.

Thanks for any and all advice. I will, of course, be searching the IC27A
archives, Yahoo willingly (versus god willingly).
