I use a basin nut wrench. They are plumbing tools made to tighten or remove the drain fittings under sinks. They are large, adjustable and not very expensive. They are made from castings and not very strong but these are not high torque tasks we are talking about here. I also use mine to adjust and lock the shaft seals.
