Hi folks, I've received a dozen or more inquiries, so I'm sending this info on genny prices out to the whole group. I apologize for the mass mailing, but I can't answer the emails quickly enough. If you're interested in the Fleet purchase, please contact me and I'll send you the forms for measuring your boat and the technical descriptions of the cloths. [3 Attachments] To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, August 19, 2010, 5:50 PM [Attachment(s) from Judith Blumhorst, DC included below] Hi folks, I have been working with the regional manager at Hyde Sails North America for several days to put together a "Fleet Program" for the Catalina 27 Fleet and IC27A members. If you are looking for a cruising, club racer genny or racer 155%, email me directly and I will send you the information. The sail prices are discounted like a bulk purchase by a large teaching fleet -- but they use high-sail cloth and include have all the features normally found only in high-end custom sails. The genoas in this Program will save you 15-30% compared to other "name-brand" internet lofts. Plus these sails have more high-end features and high-end sailcloths. The two cut-off dates for deposits are August 31 and Sept 15th. Those are the days you'll need to put down a 50% deposit and send in your measurement forms. Hyde Sails will do a special run at the loft in the Philippines and consolidate shipping by boat to the USA to keep costs down. Cruisers, club racers and full-on racers want different things from their sails. In each category, Hyde's regional manager selected the sailcloth that will give the best performance for the best price possible. And then he loaded the sails with every high-end feature you could possibly ask for. The sailcloths were specifically matched to the C27's heavy weight for her size. The C27's displacement is closer to modern boats 30' and longer. That means you need stronger sailcloth for a C27 than other 27 footers. The C27 genoas are low aspect sails, whereas the jibs and mainsails are high aspect. You need to use sailcloth that is constructed differently for a mainsail than a genny if you want the sail to hold its shape. Check out http://www.hydesails.com/northamerica/index.html . Contact me directly for more information. Fair winds, Judy B 1977 C27 TR #3459 "Bijou" San Francisco Bay and Delta http://www.blumhorst.com/catalina27/catalinahomepage.htm PS. Next, we will develop a Fleet Program for C27 mainsails and 110% jibs. That may take a week or two. The mains and jibs are higher aspect sails than genoas and need different cloths. Hyde stocks hundreds of different sailcloths in various weights from all major manufacturers -- and it takes a bit of work to find the right sailcloth that will provide top-notch performance at the lowest price for the C27.
