Rob,

All one needs to do is check the Coastal Conditions from Pt. Arena to the
Columbia River bar... Most any time.
Prevailing wind is from the North or Northwest.. On the nose of anyone coming
up.
It can be stormy as well with Swells of well over 10 feet with wind waves on
top of 3 or 4 feet.
Currently ...GALE warnings are up on the Northern California coast. Winds from
the North and combined seas of 11 feet.

And read what the Cruiser Forum has to say....

It should be obvious to see that it would be foolish to attempt it in a C27.

These are not unusual conditions for the Northern California coast to the
Columbia river bar most anytime of the year.
Often times the Bail Out harbors along the way .. are closed to Bar crossing.
If you can't get into them.. It's a long way to the Columbia River bar.. And it
may be closed as well
Oh sure, it could be done .. but it still would be foolish .. IMHO.
And if the weather changes to Southerlies,, It can be suicidal.
I've known of a couple friends who tried it and said they would Never Again.

Ralph Ahseln
