I haven't run into this personally (and I guess I won't since the C270
design eliminated the possibility) but it is a known serious issue. One C27
on the Chesapeake Bay lost its mast at anchor when it was jarred by a power
boat wake. The internally dry rotted bulk head just exploded. I certainly
have no way of knowing your actual risk over the internet but if it's bad
enough that you caught it you should treat as ready to fail and fix it.

First things first, what kind of chain plate bolts do you have? There been a
couple of different upgrades over the years.

Subject: [IC27A] Rotting bulkhead

Hello All,

I just discovered yesterday evening that my Starboard bulkhead on my 1979 27
is barely non-existent. I appears that very little other than the outer
laminate remains and I am now fearful of raising any sails. Have any of you
encountered this? Any ideas as to what the cause might be? I really cant
see any point for water intrusion other than the shroud chain plate, but
that could very well be the culprit. Have any of you attempted to correct
this problem? Tips, suggestions, repair process steps, any input is
welcome.

Thanks in advance
Craig Johnson
