This book just isn't about horses living outside. It's about keeping
them moving. He studied the BLM horses at the Litchfield corrals and
noted that their hooves become pretty shabby after several weeks of
idleness in the compound. They were fed twice a day with hay (pushed
off a truck) and when the bales would hit the ground, a group of horses
would stop and feed. This is about all the activity they did, twice a
day. Almost from the time they arrive they disperse, and through
dominance behavior, become absorbed into various hierarchies. Movement
becomes relatively stationary.
