Cause my horse Gallant Boy has almost four feet of mane and my Jaspar has two inches less, his son, and in researching where the hair genetics came from I learned it was Gallant Boys DAM who had the knee length hair... Fox is from the same bloodlines. He has puny hair in comparison. he was not gelded til age 8. His sire is Gallant Boys brother, still a stallion and he has the hair.
