>>> I initially became interested in the Icelandics because I'm fascinated
by equine color genetics, and that this breed has, I think, virtually every
color known to horsedom, and then of course their wonderful *horseness*, if
you know what I mean, I find very attractive, just the pure naturalness of
the breed. Denise

Well, New Yawker Denise, welcome in from lurking! :)

I read your comment above before we went out to dinner, and I've been
thinking about that. I think that's a pretty nice impression you have of
our breed - the "horseness and naturalness" of the breed, if I'm guessing
what you mean correctly. This breed SHOULD be a very "natural" breed I
think, after 1000 years of surviving some very harsh conditions. This
SHOULD be a very low-maintenance (not no-maintenance, but LOW-maintenance)
breed. I think for the most part it is...and that's why I get so
opinionated sometimes. You've probably noticed if you lurk a lot that I'm
always very skeptical about "trends" in breeding. I can see a few of the
old traits becoming less valued in favor of new traits, and I like this
breed for what it is and has been.

Anyway, I hope you stick around, and you're quite welcome to lurk or
participate.
