It is quite handy and actually safer than leaving the reins hanging on the ground. I do find it amusing that many Icelanders teach them to ground tie like this – pretty safe and makes sense to me and yet it is not uncommon to see them tie the horse up by the reins. At least when we first had Icelanders coming over here in the 70’s and early 80’s we were constantly telling them they shouldn’t tie the horses up by the reins and they thought we were nutty : ) Just funny how a context can be so different….
