>>> Karen's husband is around the 225 range and he is finding success with
the Sensation.

Yes, he is. He's actually over 235 now. He is 6'2", and has decent balance
though, but his equitation has never been the very best. However, he loves
this horse enough that he's taken a few lessons for his benefit. He began
slowly with the Sensation, building up his balance and making sure the horse
was in shape. We also are cautious to check his back for signs of soreness,
and so far, so good. I think it's safe to say, that the larger you are, the
more important your balance and equitation become - fair or unfair. But I
wouldn't rule a treeless saddle out just because you haven't been riding a
long time, or because you're not small. I do think the Sensation has more
protection for the horse than any treeless saddle I've seen.

>>> Is is an English style saddle that you prefer to ride in? If not, you
may wish to check out Dave Genedek's site and the Cordura endurance saddle.
He gives great measuring directions.

That's a good point. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to try a couple
of his saddles on my Icelandic's and still more surprised to find that I
could get a treed western saddle wide enough and short enough for my
short-backed Icelandic mare. He may not be able to make them short enough
in the bigger seat sizes though, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I am doing
well with the treeless saddles now, but if I ever decide to get a western
saddle, I'll probably order one of his.
