That's right Karen, I haven't. The only thing to watch for when starting a 4
1/2 year old Icelandic is that when you allow them to canter. Initially,
they might forget that you are on their backs and go "wheeeeee" and do these
little joy bucks. You may have to remind them that they have a
responsibility (and they will quit immediately) but by the time they are
five, they already know that and take that responsibility very seriously.
Mares who have had a foal before you start them are especially responsible
and considerate of their riders, it is truly amazing.
