One thing I notice in the field with the large horses, icelandics and
mini donkey all turned out together, the larger horses will slow their
gait to allow the smaller ones to catch up or to allow them to chase
without running them down when playing. Then I noticed one day my
Stonewall stopped grazing as I walked across the field and came
trotting in almost a lyrical slow motion, and as he circled me from
about 30 ft away, would cowkick, cowkick cowkick, but there was
something so rhythmic and gentle about it, and so slow motion, I
realized he was playing with me. I crouched and ran at him when he
stopped and oh boy, he had been WISHING for that. he took off like
the wind, galloped all around, and then as he circled to approach me,
again he slowed and his movement became very deliberate and slow
motion and gentle. like a big kid would play gently with a baby...
it was cool
