I wouldn't take it too personally...some Europeans are offended by many 
things that Americans do ;-) .  What did Europeans think of Icelandics 
who were offended when Europeans started training their Icelandics 
differently, i.e., not in the traditional Icelandic style but more in 
the traditional European style?  Didn't seem to stop them from training 
their way!  Did someone actually take time out of their day to say that 
what you named your horse was offensive to them?!!   Heavens above, that 
person has alot of extra time.

Personally, I think most Icelandic names are cute.  Kopar's real name is 
Vinur but his American owner always called him Kopar because she didn't 
like the sound of Vinur.    It's pronounced "Copper" and I know my 
friends and neighbors around here think that's how it is spelled.  Most 
of them call Starri, "Star".
