I have a little video clip we took of Dagur again. Training that boy has got me thinking about every move we make. I came in and read the portion about starting babies in the Dream Team book, and I was relieved to read that Cara and I are on the right track as far as how we're starting Dagur..(leading him with Cara riding).other than the fact that we aren't lunging him.
In Lee's book, she talks about leading and how you have to give the horse room for his head to nod.....and a light went on. We've been using a heavier lead line with a heavy brass clip and I think it's been annoying Dagur. It's flopping too much. So it's back to the drawing board for a lead line. I have a smaller one I use for Peppy with a small light clip...I'll drag that out. Sorry for all this thinking out loud, but we either we didn't have these issues with Gusti, or we were blissfully ignorant about gaits. Dagur has certainly added a new dimension to training. Cara has also been using a little light homemade set of reins attached to his halter. She commented yesterday, that she would certainly have to give him his head and stay out of his mouth to encourage his gaits. His head is much more active than Gusti's. Sorry...but I'm turning into a gait geek.... Wanda
