My friend has a paso mare that had a real problem with this. She took a crop and when the mare started to step away she would tap tap tap on the opposing side until the mare stepped back. Took many sessions but worked. I solved it with lots of sweat, getting down from the block, circling them, making them do it over and over then when they stand, I mount, praisepraisepraise, dismount, give a treat. I clicker trained stonewall to stand for mounting but then when I start weaning off it he will go a few times and start messing up again. He is so smart he figured out how to train me to start giving treats again :) janice-- yipie tie yie yo
