I too have been doing it about 8 to 10 years.  And I do understand why you
would say that.  But the people whose horses "wear them out" by mugging for
treats is allowing the horse to do that.  Most well trained clicker horse.
Almost all horse will mug in the beginning, but soon learn that they have to
work for the reward.  It is not a treat or bribe it is a reward for working,
thinking thru a problem, trying.

The only problem I have had is that Stigandi will bow just about every time
you stand beside or touch his left front leg.  I have to tell him we are not
doing that right now and he will just lift the leg.  Actually he is pretty
cute.
