There is lots on the archives about this.  YES!  DO SHAVE THEM!  ASAP!  
I love my Oster Clipmaster.  $200; lasts forever.  Blades last for about 10 
horses' full body clip, before resharpening, if the horses are well vacuumed 
before, to remove sand and dirt.  It is well worth the extra $10 to get the 
variable speed one, to more easily introduce it to a new horse.  And remember 
that a sweaty (or otherwise wet) horse does not clip properly.
