I wouldn't say pressure. It's more a hint of a support with the leg. The barrell swings inward as the leg comes off the ground, you just support the swing and ask the horse to step under a bit more. Re the speeding up question... You hold a certain amount with your seat/thigh while asking for more engagement. Close your hands lightly, sit deep, and really ask for engagement, then go back to just supporting the horse with little 'asks'. It's hard for me to explain... The engagement cues are different than just a speed up cue, I have to allow the horse forward with my body for them to speed up. Steph -- "Brutality begins where skill ends."
