Even though I think I learned more about rabies than the average Joe last year when we got the vaccines, I'll be the first to tell you this: that is NOT a question for a yahoo list. That is a serious decision, the shots seem to be very low risk, but they are expensive. And, it's a totally different situation whether you want merely to take the preventive vaccine, versus if you might have had an actual exposure via this kitten. Talk to your MD, and maybe get a supporting opinion from your county health department's MD - but I wouldn't go on any layperson's recommendation.
