>>>> However, turns out Bud is not at all gun shy, is rather well trained
and polite and wants very much to please.

Connie seems like she's been trained to hunt, with a good nose. She points
reliably. When you want with her, she just scans the ground within about a
100-yard radius of her person. But, sometimes the slightest reprimand sends
her into a tizzy. She's been treated roughly in some ways - maybe not too
bad in others. She just SO wants to please. Anyway, I'd be surprised if
she simply got lost. I feel sure she was dumped - she was so nervous to
begin with, but is getting over a lot of that now.

>>> We certainly tried very hard to reunite him with an owner. I think the
guy may have been glad he found a home.

When the girl found Simon, she called the E/S rescue and they were full.
She's a vet tech at the clinic where my buddy is a vet, so they fostered him
at the clinic, advertising, calling the humane society, the pound, the
newspapers.. After 6-8 weeks, no one still had claimed him. Why? Why
would someone buy such a nice dog, neuter him, house train him, teach him
basic obedience...and not tear up the earth looking for him when he got
lost? I don't get it. But, about every breed rescue agency stays full,
many times with dogs that apparently have been abandoned.
