I know you've said that Gat is genuinely hard to fit, and I know you've tried different saddle options on her. If a crupper is necessary for her, maybe it's all you can do - I don't know, and I certainly wouldn't criticize you for using one in that case. However, that's a different situation from what I saw when I got my first Icelandic's. Cruppers and foregirths were virtually standard equipment, and many/most "Icelandic" saddles were very, very narrow - and that was just a few years ago. Personally, I've never used a crupper, even on the trails, but I wouldn't criticize someone for using one if they have exhausted all possibilities for fitting a saddle, or if they are riding on extreme trails where they feel one is genuinely needed.
