Actually no, I have an older brother. We never really got along until
we both grew up.  My son (age 11) is an only, and he's pretty
competitive.

I think it's because I've been-there-done-that with showing, esp.
dogs.  I swore that I'd keep showing as long as it was fun, and the
minute it quit being fun, I'd quit showing.   And it got way too
political. I like showing obedience, but don't really have time for
it.

And once I hit 40, I kinda had an epiphany--I stopped caring what
other people thought of me, and started stopping to savor life and
smell the roses more.  Competing just stopped having a place in my
life. I started farming, found God, and am now very content with how
things are. :)
