Chip readers aren't universal enough for me to consider them yet. I was reading a website that was discussing horse theft the other day and they said that freeze branding was the best deterrent against theft. Too visible. However I don't like freeze branding either...;)...there's just no pleasing me. An interesting thing the website discussed was that if a thief was conisdering your horses, he would view them during the day somehow, and mark your property....by either using something as simple as a plastic bag on the fence, or some spray paint on the road...
