I haven't had a chance to write about a concern I had after deworming
the other night. We weight tape everyone before each deworming. It
gives us a good picture of how well each one of our horses is doing
between dewormings....and allows us to determine the dosage more
closely.

Both Gusti and Peppy had dropped a substantial amount of weight since
last fall. Gust 70 lbs...(not that he couldn't stand to lose
it)...but a dramatic weight drop like that might indicate other
trouble.

My first thought was teeth...but when I felt along the outside of
Gusti's face looking for sore spots...he didn't flinch at all.
However, Peppy did. The vets are due out in a couple of weeks and
Cara can ask them to float Peppy's teeth.

So I'm still left wondering why Gusti is dropping weight. Can it be
that we've finally got our pasture management settled? Or is there
something else brewing??

Gusti's coat seems dry to me though. I bought some vitamins today
just in case he's missing some nutrition somewhere.

Or could it be something as simple as a worm load? We've never had an
issue with worm loads here, but perhaps he spit his out last fall when
we weren't looking or the dosage or kind of dewormer didn't have an
effect....

glad I could find something to worry about...
