I saw a fox yesterday. This was such an exciting thing for me.....all
the time I have spent in the woods riding horses or on foot with my
dogs, I have never seen a silver fox before.
Yesterday I was riding Netta along the side of the main road and there
was a silver fox crossing the road in a casual way, just about 50 feet
away. He was a black color with brown and silver highlights, very
lanky and long-legged, not compact like the red fox. He stopped and
looked my way. He seemed slightly startled to see me on that horse,
but he kept his cool. We made eye contact for a couple of seconds,
then he moved on, still not in any hurry. I think that I was able to
get that close because the fox smelled Netta, not me, and was taken
unawares. I called the Dept. of Natural Resources this morning to
report what I saw, but they didn't think it was a big deal. Annie
