The pictures really don't do it justice. The bells are plenty light, brass I think, and pretty small - I can't imagine a horse noticing the weight at all. The day I got mine, I clipped it to my t-shirt, to see if the bells would be annoying to me. I forgot I had it on, and wore it all day. Heavy jewelry annoys me, but neither the weight nor the bells were annoying to me, so if the weight didn't bother me, I can't imagine it bothering a horse.. The bells are round, not flat-backed, and make a pleasant sound. Kaaren can give you more details about the "bells and whistles." (Ok, no whistles, but I liked the phrase for this context!)
