I saw janice's saddle pad, an older Grandeur. I didn't like the design at all. I'm not sure if the newer ones are still made like it, but I would never buy one. And, they are at least as expensive as the Skito's, probably more! The foam inserts were taken out via the length of the pad, with long, stretches of Velcro along the spine. And the foam padding was thin - if/when it slipped, there was nothing to keep it up at all! When she took Tivar, I traded her his nice Medi Cheval pad (with custom shims) for that one. I added some 1/2" wool felt padding, just to keep it up off any horse's spine, but I never used it. That stupid binding at the Velcro was an accident waiting to happen, and looks like it happened to Jaspar. It probably woudn't be so bad for a horse with in "inny" spine, as opposed to Jasper's "outy" or prominent spine, but I'd still never buy one. I know I've mentioned Kaaren Jordan several times as a GOOD saddle dealer. Janice's story is what you want to avoid. Kaaren knows tons about different brands of treeless saddles, and the associated pads. She can warn you what ones will work for you and which ones should be avoided. It amazes me that these pads like Janice's old one are so expensive. After seeing it, I never, ever complained about the price of a Skito pad again! Beware - sometimes you get what you pay for, and sometimes, you pay for a lot and still get ripped off... I think Janice got hers used off ebay, so I don't think she paid much for it, and hopefully, we can all learn something from Jaspar's incident. Karen Thomas, NC
